The Value of Memories

Today, my Facebook feed reminded me of a faded memory: Sword and Bow bouncing up and down, carefree on the trampoline.

Does Bow still jump up and down on the trampoline in the backyard, today? No, he doesn't. But neither does Sword. There is a time for all things and for all things a season. The value of the memory does not diminish, even though it is a thing of the past.

Today, the trampoline is a bit rundown, and the fence has a grey look to it, and is not yellow and fresh as when it was first put up. Sword and Bow are teenagers. They have other interests besides jumping up and down together on the trampoline. But isn't it great that they could, when the time was right?

  1. I like the fresh fence look, but I also liked the aged look of a fence turning grey. My parents had a wood fence they built when I was little, and it to is also turning grey. Some people pay a lot of things to make wood look aged on purpose, so I think you achieved the coveted look over time without paying someone lots of money to do it. Just a decorating thought.

    1. Hi, Julia, that's a good point, about how sometimes people pay lots of money to get a look that will happen naturally, given enough time.

When I first moved here, we could see right across the street to the neighbors' house, and some people suggested that to have more privacy, we should plant tall cedars by the fence line. Well, I did nothing, but I allowed trees to plant themselves and grow at their own pace, and now we cannot see the house across the street at all.

It is odd how the idea of just waiting and letting things happen on their own does not occur to some people.

    1. Hi, Kathy. Definitely nice to have those memories captured in a photo, though I think we have them in our minds as well.
